#SpaceSunday with Sarah Parcak-Space Archaeologist
Sarah Parcak’s findings and techniques of combining high-resolution imagery from satellites with thermal imaging has helped find an additional 17 pyramids, 1000 tombs, and over 3200 ancient settlements within a single year. Sarah won the 2015 $1 million TED prize to find more ancient civilizations and her career in STEM has helped pave the way for more women to join and feel included in the field.
Sarah Parcak’s initiative to include the world in discovering ancient civilizations was supported with the 2016 TED Prize, which she used to buildGlobalXplorer.org. This citizen science platform for archaeology democratizes discovery and makes technologies involving satellite-mapping faster and more cost-effective!
