Maryam Mirzakhani was the first woman, as well as first Iranian, to win the Fields Medal, Math’s highest honor. In 2014, Maryam was recognized for her contributions to the dynamics and geometry of Riemann surfaces and their moduli spaces.

Maryam was a professor at Stanford University, where she creatively engaged with math and math theories. Maryam often enjoyed approaching problems deemed unsolvable, which she tackled in her thesis at Harvard University as well.
