Thyrsa Frazier Svager earned her Bachelors in Mathematics from Antioch College before getting her Masters and PhD in Mathematics from Ohio State University. Thyrsa was one of the very first African-American women to earn a PhD in mathematics. Thyrsa had a long career as a professor of mathematics at multiple universities and wrote several Mathematics textbooks. The Thyrsa Frazier Svager Fund was set up to provide scholarships for African-American women studying mathematics.
