Dr. Bettye Washington Greene was the first black woman chemist to work at the Dow Chemical Company. Bettye earned her B.S. from the Tuskegee Institute before earning her Ph.D. from Wayne State University. Bettye began her career at Dow in the E.C. Britton Lab working with Latex products before later being promoted to senior research chemist and senior research specialist. Bettye was a founding member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., which was a national service group for African-American women.
