Dr. Fern Hunt is a mathematician.
Fern’s mother, who was not able to complete her education because of the costs, encouraged Fern to attend college. Fern attended Bryn Mawr College, where she earned her degree in mathematics. With the encouragement of her professor, Dr. Martin Avery Snyder, Fern attended the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University for graduate school, where she earned her Masters and Ph.D.
Fern worked at the National Institute of Health (NIH) in the Laboratory of Mathematical Biology and was a consultant for the National Bureau of Standards during her career. Fern’s studies include biomathematics.
Fern participates in the Conference of African-American Researchers in the Mathematical Sciences (CAARMS) and takes part in a summer program to encourage women and minority students to pursue graduate study in mathematics.
