Dr. Ciara Sivels made history, becoming the first black woman to earn a Ph.D in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2018. At the time, University of Michigan’s Nuclear Engineering program was ranked the best in the country. After taking an AP chemistry class in high school, Ciara’s teacher encouraged her to consider STEM. Before heading to the University of Michigan, Ciara attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she studied nuclear science and engineering.
