Evelyn Boyd Granville is the second black woman to earn a Ph.D. in mathematics and later went on to work for NASA on space programs before becoming a longtime professor.

After joining IBM in 1956, Evelyn created computer software for NASA’s Project Vanguard and Project Mercury space programs before working as a professor for 30 years in 1967. Even after retiring, Evelyn encouraged students to study mathematics. As a public speaker, Evelyn inspires others to pursue math and promotes the importance of math in academics.
