Tabitha Babbitt was an American Shaker inventor. Tabitha invented the circular saw after seeing how hard it was to use a pit saw, which only cut one way. Tabitha was a weaver and use her experience with a weaving machine to create a circular saw by putting the blade onto a fast-spinning axel, which increased productivity and decreased the amount of labor needed. Tabitha had many other inventions but she never patented any of her creations.
